THE MOST DANGEROUS EXCUSE IS THE ONE YOU BELIEVE YOURSELF!
Your Mind Can Fool You Without You Even Knowing It.
Sometimes, we want something badly.
But instead of simply accepting “I want this”, our mind starts giving us beautiful reasons to support our desire.
The surprising part?
We genuinely believe those reasons!
We may not even realise that we are making excuses.
For example:
We don’t want to work. Our mind says, “I need some rest.”
We want to buy something unnecessary. Our mind says, “Life is short. I deserve happiness.”
We don’t want to face a difficult situation. Our mind says, “I am protecting my peace.”
We don’t want to take action. Our mind says, “Everything will happen at the right time.”
All these reasons can be perfectly correct in some situations.
But is that the REAL reason, or is our mind finding a good reason to support what we want?
This is what we need to understand.
🚨 WHEN SHOULD YOU BE EXTRA ALERT?
Our mind is more likely to create excuses when our desires, fears, or comfort are challenged.
Here are some important situations where we must observe ourselves carefully.
1. WHEN YOUR COMFORT ZONE IS DISTURBED
When you need to do something difficult, new, or uncomfortable.
Example:
You want to start exercising.
Your mind says, “I should start when my body feels completely ready.”
But are you really unwell, or simply avoiding the discomfort of starting?
2. WHEN YOU STRONGLY DESIRE SOMETHING
When you badly want something, your mind may find reasons to support it.
Example:
You want to buy an expensive phone.
Your mind says, “I work so hard. I deserve this.”
Maybe you do deserve it.
But can you afford it? Do you really need it?
3. WHEN YOU WANT TO ESCAPE RESPONSIBILITY
When you have something important to finish but don’t feel like doing it.
Example:
You keep postponing your studies.
Your mind says, “I can concentrate better when I study at the last minute.”
Is that really true, or is it an excuse to avoid studying now?
4. WHEN YOU DON’T WANT TO ACCEPT YOUR MISTAKE
When somebody points out your mistake.
Example:
You speak harshly to someone.
Your mind immediately says, “They made me angry. Anyone would have reacted like that.”
But does their behaviour remove your responsibility for your reaction?
5. WHEN SOMEONE QUESTIONS YOU
When another person disagrees with your decision.
Example:
Someone questions your spending habits.
Your mind says, “They don’t understand me. They are judging me.”
Maybe they are judging you.
But what if they have a valid point?
6. WHEN YOU ARE AFRAID OF FAILURE
When you want to do something but fear the result.
Example:
You have a good business idea.
Your mind says, “The market is not good. This is not the right time.”
Maybe the timing is genuinely bad.
Or maybe you are afraid of trying and failing.
7. WHEN YOUR EGO OR IMAGE IS THREATENED
When accepting the truth would make you feel less intelligent, successful, or important.
Example:
You realise that your decision was wrong.
Your mind says, “Actually, I had a very good reason for doing it.”
Instead of correcting the mistake, you keep defending your decision.
8. WHEN YOU USE SPIRITUALITY OR POSITIVE THINKING TO AVOID ACTION
Example:
You need to have a difficult conversation and solve a problem.
Your mind says, “I have surrendered everything to God. I don’t need to do anything.”
But are you truly surrendering, or avoiding an uncomfortable responsibility?
Divine Surrender should bring clarity and responsible action, not become an excuse to escape life.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOUR MIND IS MAKING EXCUSES?
Whenever you face one of these situations, ask yourself:
What do I actually want? Am I looking for comfort, pleasure, attention, approval, or escape?
Is this my real reason? Or am I creating a good reason to support my desire?
Am I avoiding something uncomfortable? A responsibility, a difficult truth, a mistake, or a fear?
Would I accept the same reason from someone else? Or am I giving myself special permission?
Am I ready to change my decision if I realise I am wrong?
You don’t have to suppress your desires or feel guilty about them.
Just be aware of what is happening inside you.
BEFORE MAKING A DECISION
Practise this simple method:
STOP → OBSERVE → QUESTION → DECIDE
STOP: Don’t immediately believe every reason your mind gives you.
OBSERVE: What am I feeling? What do I want? What am I trying to avoid?
QUESTION: Is my reason supported by facts, or mainly by what I wish to believe?
DECIDE: Choose with clarity. Accept responsibility for your choice.
Remember, not every comfortable choice is wrong. Not every desire is selfish. Not every explanation is an excuse.
The purpose is not to doubt everything.
The purpose is to stop fooling ourselves.
THE BIGGEST REALISATION
Sometimes, our Survival Mind doesn’t openly say:
“I am lazy.”
“I am afraid.”
“I want attention.”
“I don’t want to take responsibility.”
Instead, it may give us a beautiful, intelligent, loving, or spiritual explanation.
And we may believe it completely.
This is why self-awareness is so important.
Before believing your own explanation, ask yourself:
“IS THIS THE TRUTH, OR IS THIS WHAT MY MIND WANTS ME TO BELIEVE?”
The moment you become willing to question your own reasons, you create an opportunity for higher consciousness.
Don’t just observe the excuses others make. Learn to recognise the excuses your own mind creates.
That is where real inner transformation begins.
